Life musings and Photography learnings - AKA Lozas Blog

I don’t see myself as a leader, but perhaps through sharing more of me in this space with you all, I might nourish someone in a small way.

I’m not entirely sure what this Blog will become, however I’m diving in. It will likely be a mixture of sharing of humanity, life experiences and of course Photography related content. I’m constantly learning myself so often don’t feel equipped to ‘teach’, however I’m open to sharing what I do know and give more insight into how I work if it is of interest to others, and like I said, may nourish. Nourish learning, nourish confidence, nourish the thirst to express and create. Nourish a sense of community, because we all need support to grow and thrive.

Feelings of Grief

An exploratory stills photography work inspired by the hauntingly beautiful Paul Kelly song, 'Feelings of Grief'.

This personal project began close to four years ago when I first heard Paul Kelly’s song. I was transfixed by the live version recorded at the Empire Theatre and would imagine still images when listening to it.

Going through a difficult time in life and in need of some creative play, I put a call out to friends to join in a photoshoot around ‘grief’, exploring disconnection, bonds, transitions, and journeys.

The process of coming together that day was cathartic. Stories of loss were shared in between taking photos, two of us dealing with the unexpected loss of a child within our school community days previous.

I can't thank my cast enough for exploring this idea with me. I hope you enjoy my interpretation and I encourage anyone experiencing grief of any form to connect with others. Each persons journey with grief is unique and timeless and I hope no one ever goes through the journey alone.

Cast: Michael McPherson, Yvonne Doevan, Chelsea Elliott and Chris Lobo

Make up by Amber De Bruyn

Assistant: Beck Page

Note: I’ve reached out to Paul Kelly’s management multiple times seeking his permission to use the song and share my work online, however I can’t get a response. I hope my posting this does not cause any offence and that I can sort out any royalties due.
