When I met Henry he came across as gentle, loving, thoughtful and wise. He held a quiet confidence to interact with older kids around him, and didn't let fear stop him from sharing himself. After the photography workshop I since learned that Henry has more to his story and I think it is important to share with you all. ⠀
With #rarediseaseday coming up on the 28th Feb, it's always helpful to get educated about struggles others are going through that perhaps you don't see visually.
So, I would like to let Henry's mum do the introductions. They are currently living life on the road #northbound. ⠀ ⭐️ Meet Henry ⭐️⠀
Henry is a super kid ⠀
A cheeky 7 year old and a barrel of laughs. ⠀
He has a real kind soul, and a smile to match 💙⠀
He loves aeroplanes, and when he grows up he wants to be a policeman 👮🏻‍♂️⠀
He knows 3 jokes (all about poo 🙄), and his favourite song is ‘all about that bass’ 🎶⠀
⠀
Henry’s favourite things about living on the road are; ⠀
🇦🇺 You get to have new experiences and see Australia⠀
🏕 You get to go to bed in a caravan ⠀
🐄 You see lots of cows on the road ⠀
🚕 You get to go on tours and do all sorts of cool things ⠀
🏖 You get to swim in different pools & beaches⠀
...and he’s now part of a growing community that gets to call Australia his school yard!...👌🏻⠀
⠀
Henry was one of the biggest motivators for us to sell up, and take off around Oz 🚌💨⠀
⠀
-------------------------⠀
⠀
Henry's Mum explained he had not been well since birth. For years they went on a merry go round of specialist appointments. Eventually they met one paediatric gastroenterologist, who really listened to Henry and became part of the family team to find an answer. After 5 years, they got it. Henry was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE), a rare disease.⠀
⠀
EoE is a chronic, allergic inflammatory disease of the oesophagus. ⠀
⠀
Listen to all the voices, especially those of our young. ⠀

@mirboonorthitalianfesta you brought the crowds again! 👉🏻 Such a delight for the senses and heartwarming seeing people spending quality time together celebrating their culture. ⠀
⠀
Thank you to everyone who let me photograph them, and even bigger thanks to the gift of an arancini ball by one person...I obviously looked hungry, ha! It was delicious 😋🙏
⠀
Highlight was the flag throwers all the way over from Italy, stunning seeing this traditional art form up close!⠀

Throwback to @jackstirlingmusic at @170russellvenue, 2015⠀
⠀
I've been going down the rabbit hole of my photography catalogues lately. See, I'm busy working on a new website and it's made me look back and reflect on the work that I REALLY love doing. I realised there are so many shots I've enjoyed that I don't share. ⠀
So stay tuned for me sharing a bit more of what speaks to me instead of letting a concoction of ideals I've placed in my own head, of what I think people want me to share. Here's to quietening inner dialogues!⠀

I had a feeling there would be some sort of positive spontaneous catch up today and there was!
The buzz some conversations bring is always such a beautiful human experience. It has definitely lifted me up from a draining week that felt very low on creative expression. ⠀
⠀
@artprojector can't wait to team up with your Artistic talents!🙌🏼🎨
⠀
⠀
Enjoy your weekend everyone, and get into some conversations that make you buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!⠀
⠀
⠀
Will catch some of you at @mirboonorthitalianfesta . I'll be busy snapping but might plan to sneakily pack an esky of food delights to gorge on afterwards 🤫

⠀
Devastation leads a long road to recovery, generations often still bearing scars. ⠀
⠀
My thoughts today are with all of those impacted by the Black Saturday Bushfires. 🖤

Ten years may sound like a long time, but I know for many, time can feel like it has not moved. ⠀
⠀
That day, I remember holding my daughter, not even a month old and seeing the billows of smoke first appear up the hill. I felt sick. The day and night was spent restlessly keeping in touch with family, fearing it would be another Ash Wednesday. For us it wasn't, but it turned out to be another catastrophic fire for others. ⠀
.....................................⠀
My family were incredibly lucky to survive Ash Wednesday, but many lives very close by were not. Such an experience & living in a bushfire prone zone means you grow up differently. I was only an infant so I have no memory of that fiery night, but the stories and impact it had on my family and community influenced me greatly. ⠀
⠀
My Grandparents next door lost everything-photo albums included. Growing up without access to those family stories made me realise how important photography is to engage us with our history and since then, I’ve felt a deep responsibility to document our stories so nothing is lost or forgotten. Each photo over the years that surfaced through relatives was like finding gold.⠀
⠀
This photo is of my Brother helping clean up the remains of our Grandparents Orchard after Ash Wednesday. Crazily, in the background some green trees stand tall among the ashen. As my Mum told me, there was no rhyme or reason to that day in terms of what was destroyed and what survived. ⠀
⠀
But through the ash resilience births, communities band together and lives find a way of continuing. I hope in all the remembering today there is also light and healing. ⠀ ⠀

⠀
How are all those ‘first days’ going this week?⠀
⠀
My special portrait man from 2018, Luka started school this week. ⠀
⠀
This shot was taken in December when he graduated from kinder. I look at him when he came in for his first portrait in January 2018 to him Jan 2019 and can't believe the changes over that period. Childhood sure can fly along, capturing all those magic moments and what happened in his life last year was super special.⠀
⠀
Have an awesome year Luka, and all you little uns trying new things this year. ⠀

⠀
Last year I had the funnest couple of shoots 👉🏻 with THE Kim McFarlane and team. We captured an array of shots to work with her advertising needs in local media and of course a low key portrait for my pleasure. Love me some shadow! I honesty don't know how Kim manages all she does. I know if I ever needed legal help (hopefully never) she would be who I call 💪🏼
⠀
She is up for the People's Choice Category in this years 'Celebrate Baw Baw' awards. Voting closes at 5pm, so locals go check it out online and get a vote in @bawbawshire ⠀
Thanks for the talent and company @kolorzandklawz on set for this shoot too!⠀😘

Working with the incredibly talented @wendyfantasia again was such a highlight of this shoot. The first though was Sarah at @the_loft_by_studio_samsara embracing my thoughts for a creative branding shoot. Be sure to head over to her page or better yet, get to her studio and feel the benefits of her classes! She is amazing at what she does.⠀
⠀
She brought so much to the process and inspired my thinking from the get go. My shoots really are about trying to communicate you as a person to your audience in a creative, authentic and and story telling way. ⠀

| Nash Family Sunset | 🌅

I can't believe January is nearly over!! Freakin out a little here at how quick it's going and that school is back Thursday. I'm not sure whether that is a good or bad thing...let's just label it a change. More new beginnings to navigate. ⠀
⠀
I admit I had made GRAND lists for myself of everything I was going to get done after I 'got through' the work demands at the end of 2018. But you know what, I didn't get it done. I crashed a bit...pretty standard for me come the New Year, ha!⠀
⠀
But I did get some things done, including this beautiful family shoot with the Nash's. ⠀
⠀
I also got time away with my family clan which is invaluable. ❤️ I packed my camera gear but didn't take one pic. Sounds bad I know, but I really needed a break and it was so good just being in the moments rather than feeling the responsibility to capture.
⠀
Thanks for all the inquires rolling in and support. I truly value what I get to do for a living and being able to share my passion with others. ⠀

I'm looking forward to rolling out the year with all of you! ⠀ xx⠀

I have to give a big shout out to @b_alternative who helped make sure @oceansoundsfestival was environmentally active. ⠀
With five various separated bin deposits, every sort of product was dealt with in the most environmentally conscious way, and quickly. Cans were crushed on site and composting was also done on Churchill Island leading to a zero carbon footprint. ⠀
⠀
This is how every event should be done and hopefully will be soon.⠀
⠀
Even at the end of the night, there was barely any rubbish around me to pick up as patrons were just as quick to clean up anything they saw when the crowds started to disperse. My kind of people! 🙌🏼
⠀
As @b_alternative would say, “party with the Planet, not against it.” And remember the best thing you can do is reduce (or stop) your use of plastics & harmful waste to start with. ⠀

Real Weddings

I love to share and listen to stories. My kids often have me make up stories on the spot at bedtime. Although I admit, they can be a bit hit and miss depending how tired I am!

But every wedding is always worthy of sharing, of writing down, of remembering.

There is always a deep and long story behind the images I capture. My images are captured over one day, but the connections, moments and exchanges have existed for years.

I thank all my wonderful couples for letting me share some of their story with you all.

I admit, I've fallen VERY behind in blogging, but please wait for me...will be up to speed again soon x
